Cascade

In my studio there are lives a growing collection of natural found objects collected from my walks. I made a response to a burnt piece of wood, by building up a cascade of marks onto strips of paper, and taped them in a series of layered strips of paper which curled as they dried over the edge of the window sill.

”Burning is a chemical process by which two atoms or molecules will combine with each other. In burning, the two atoms or molecules will combine and release energy. Usually one of the two molecules is oxygen or something else chemically like it called an oxidizer. When the molecules combine and release energy, it is released in the form of heat and often light.”

It was a very quick drawing to make, but also intensely led by the marks themselves and through my own observations of the way the wood had charred in the fire.
